Not much good news as far as fishing goes. HIGH COLD water. Dynamite might work. But the birds are flying well and ducks and geese are starting to move through. We'll post any fishing changes as they occur. Probably looking at a warm spring spell before we start to see any action again. But a warm few days in Feb, March or April are something to look forward to! See you all at the Fly Fishing Shows.

The river is going to be coming back up to 19,000 cfs for the rest of the year. Too much water up top. Also water temps are expected to be regulated for spawning Burbot which means temps as low as 42 degrees. Any trout die hards out there will have to bounce a bug off the fishes nose. Looks like it's hunting time! We will update river info further if conditions warrant.

10/22/04

It's time for big flies down deep folks. The river is currently holding steady at 4400 cfs. Weather has been anything but nice as of late. Occasional breaks in the clouds between periods of rain for the last week or so. No let up in sight. Snow pack is already building on the peaks. Temps have been in the mid 40's to low 50's. Water temps are still in the mid 50's though so fish are feeding. For the true die hards there are still fish to be had and the river will be yours. We will update further if things change.

Well, the weather has bottomed out, and so has the river. Flows are down to 4500 cfs and the according to the weather man our first taste of winter is on it's way. Cold and rain / snow for a few days. Not likely to stay though so by next week things should be looking up again. The fish will have had time to adapt to the new water levels and should be feeding well. We'll keep you posted.

The river is currently on it's way down from steady flows of 12,000 cfs to 9,000 cfs or so all summer to what is expected to be a steady flow of approximately 4,700 cfs.

The Kootenai has treated us well this year being one of the best in recent memory. Great water flows have combined with good insect production to really boost our fish growth which was so substantially hampered by the floods of '02. Right now the '05 season is shaping up to be one of the best ever. With forecasted above precipitation for the upcoming winter season we should be in great shape for quite some time.

There is still some prime fishing to be had this year though. A Few more weeks of good weather should keep us into steady fish. Especially in the warmer part of the day.

Good hatches of BWO, Neon Green Midges and the occasional Caddis and PMD are taking nice fish. Pulling streamers is producing as well.

Give us a call and let us get you on the river before the cold weather sets in!
