Kootenai River Outfitters Guest Ranch

Our guests enjoy what is in our opinion the "last best" place
in the lower 48. We are situated deep in the heart of the
Cabinet Mountains in the beautiful Bull Lake valley. The guest ranch encompasses 700 acres and more than 2 miles of private blue ribbon water on the lower Kootenai's largest tributary. A spring fed creek and almost a mile of Bull Lake frontage round out the ranch and ensure a wide variety of fly fishing experiences.

Add to that the fact the we are surrounded by millions of acres of National Forest, stunning views of both the 95,000 acre
Cabinet Mountain Wilderness on one side, and 130,000 acres of the Scotchman Peaks remote / roadless area "out our back door" and you can be assured that your stay with us will be one of enjoyment and peaceful relaxation.

The Cabinet Mountains are some of the most spectacular and least traveled / populated in the US . Stretching 150 miles from the northern end of the Bitterroots to the Canadian border. Within this range you will find millions of acres of remote solitude.

Countless high mountain lakes, 1000's of miles of streams, waterfalls, old growth forest, towering peaks, and rock walls are what make up this area.

When not fly fishing, or in the off season, guest may also enjoy hiking, mountain biking, nature watching, or x-country skiing on miles of maintained roads and trails on the ranch. Canoeists and Kayakers also have miles of unspoiled water to explore. There are several picnic shelters, primitive camp sites, and an out cabin located on the ranch too. Each one offering a unique and spectacular view. 100's of miles of forest roads and trails continue into the wilderness where the ranch ends.

Wildlife abounds here. Deer and Elk visit the ranch with regularity. In fact it is common to be greeted in the morning / evening to many grazing deer and the occasional elk. Moose, Grizzlies, Black Bear, Sheep, Goats, Wolves, Badgers, and Cougar are more elusive and tend to move into the higher country as the weather warms.

Bird lovers will enjoy many species that are seldom seen in other habitats in which they once thrived. Bald Eagles nest on the ranch. Roughed Grouse are plentiful. For several weeks each spring the woods resound with the thumping of the eager males trying to "out drum" each other in the hopes of attracting a mate. Also Hawks, Kingfishers, Merlins, Kestrels, and Pileated Woodpeckers, just to name a few. Of course waterfowl are also abundant. From the more common Geese and Mallards to Buffleheads, Coots, Goldeneyes, Canvasbacks, Mergansers and the occasional Loon. Bring your camera and a good set of binoculars!
